I made it through!!! A little tired but I made it through! What a wonderful afternoon it was ! Celebrating soon to be 7th birthday with the all the girl from her class (11 girls in total to be exact) .
It was amazing, heartwarming, and fun.
As I have mentioned before N has autism so to have 15 children in the house without help of another adult was going to prove challenging.
If this morning was any indication of how the day was going to go I was in for a rough ride. I had tried to ask N ,Z and T to help tidy up the toys along with a few other chores that are theirs to do on a Saturday. I think even if I had a cattle prod nothing would have moved N away from the window.
This morning at 7am she burst into the room exclaiming loudly today is her birthday party. I convinced her to read quietly in her room so I could get a little more shut which was very short lived.
She had her usual breakfast but had to sit at the window sill waiting for her friends to come .
I asked her to do a few things which did eventually get done but I literally had to shut the blinds so that she would do as asked.
At about lunch time she had layer down under the window sucking her finger waiting for her friends . She stayed there until about ten minutes when I asked her to set up the table for the party.
Wen her guest started arriving she opened the door welcoming everyone at the top of her voice. Her excitement was through the roof and I was afraid of mass meltdown.
Her friends were sweet and caring . They show love and respect for each and everyone of themselves. They were all talking with her , playing together and having fun . During the three hours her the was not one fight, not one argument , not even a snap or snide remark.
When it came time to open the gifts it became very apparent to me how much these girl love and know my sweet little girl. Each gift open was perfect for her. She received transformers which is one of her biggest obsessions. She received a dragon kite to which her friend said “I know it’s not toothless ( from how to train your dragon) but its a dragon and it will fly .” She received a soft kitten and a ring from her BFF who said ” feel how soft this kitty is , you can sleep with her and when you get upset you can pet her and she will make you feel better ” she received cards from another friend and her sister that they had made . They had printed out transformers and coloured them for the card. She received many other things which she loved.
For me this was overwhelming. Not many of the mothers had asked what N liked and yet their daughters knew my daughter well enough to now what she would like. It showed me that these girl except her even though they are not necessarily interested in the same things she is . The showed that they knew her and loved her .
For me to see this was amazing . That parents who don’t know my child listened to their children when they told her that N loves dragons, kittens and transformers. It showed that the parents accepted that my child’s interest were different from their child and that it didn’t matter. They all brought their children to our house cultivating and allowing the bonds and friendships to blossom
I want to take the time to thank both parents and girls alike for being supportive, caring , loving and accepting of my child . It truly means the world to me and It means a lot to N .
